Through sun or rain, the Royal Mail gets through! Friendly Guy!
One sister from California receives a package almost every day. She's a daughter of some of the Marriott family. She gets so much stuff that they have a hard time getting her transferred. Even though she gives a lot of it away every time she moves, she still has twice as much luggage as anyone else. Her companion from Wales has probably been 'educated' to what it is like to be a rich American.
These are the two assistants to the President. They were the ones who picked us up at the airport upon our arrival two months ago...Elder Parr (senior) & Elder Steflik
Elder Parr is the driver
Elder and Sister Day (below) are "temps" who will be working in the outer office in the mission office until the new couple missionaries arrive.
Elder and Sister Gray
In the inner sanctum, Elder and Sister Gray from Nottingham, have extended their mission twice now due to other missionaries who arrived and then returned home prematurely. Sister Gray recently lost an elderly aunt in a gruesome way. The aunt was living alone and the neighbors and one nephew kept tabs on her. The neighbors called the nephew to let him know they hadn't seen her for several days.
The nephew went to the house and rang the doorbell and tried the doors but they were all locked. He called the police who broke in and found her. She had been dead for at least a week. The officer who went in took a rest day soon afterwards, so they think it was a pretty awful discovery. They cannot bury her for another month or two since they could not identify her through dental records and are having to use DNA which takes weeks to process, so she is in the freezer at the morgue. The poor woman lived alone and could barely hear so when people would go to visit her or call her on the phone, they got no answer even when she was alive. The neighbors could tell she was ok as long as she was taking a milk delivery but she had stopped the milk a few weeks previous. Sad, sad story!
We have George in the office on Wednesdays and Kerrie in the office on Fridays. They're both volunteers which is a huge service that we appreciate when we have to be away from the office on our travels. On Tuesdays and sometimes Thursdays we often have the office all to ourselves. No one wants to spend that much time in an oven!
We are "woating" (roasting) as Evie would have said a few months back...She is now a big girl with a younger brother and a baby sister, so she is speaking far bet-ta..England talk for "better".
Some weeks we are in the office every day and we're wondering what happened to the nice cool weather in England. As the sun burns through the big glass windows in the office, it must be at least 100 degrees in there. :-) We want you to know that we are having a hot summer this year, in spite of being in a country that doesn't usually see the sun this much. Things are drying up since the rain has stayed away for over a week.
George & his wife, Audrey
After we went to the New Hall Mill the middle of July, our friend George had a bad fall in his kitchen. He went to the hospital and there were all kinds of rumors circulating that he had broken his wrist and his collarbone. Finally, Elder and Sister Jolley went to his home to find out the real story. They took he and his wife, Audrey, a loaf of bread. This bread was made using some of the grain from the mill and it was as heavy as a brick. When we arrived at the Richardson home, we found George sitting in a chair in his back yard with no broken bones. Audrey got umbrellas for us since the sun was beating down as usual! We told them to use the bread if they had intruders
P.S. We went to see George today and dropped off some Oatmeal Raisin Cookies. He is on the mend and looking better. Thankfully, there has also been a good turn in the weather - it's cool again! And rainy! We LOVE it! :-)
