Elder Jolley's favorite park March 7, 2015

Lovely Day for a Walk!

Imagine how beautiful this tree will be when it has leaves!

It's the Ice Cream Truck but we have no money...
We hear the music of the ice cream truck from our flat, but we never catch him!

Here's the competition...

Self-Reliance Presentation B.O.T. Ward March 1, 2015

This morning, we taught the Self-Reliance Initiative to the Burton-on-Trent combined Priesthood & Relief Society meeting. We were excited to see someone we knew...Imogene Berry, who had come into the SR Centre in Birmingham, to get help starting her own business. She's a bright, talented woman who is working hard to set up her business to help schools teach communication skills for special needs students. She definitely has the experience and energy required to succeed!

As we walked into the meetinghouse, we saw this van - great advertisement for a business...

Cute idea for your next business!

Stake Conference Elder Hallstrom February 15, 2015

Elder Hallstrom went around the room shaking hands before the meeting. He asked the people where they were from and when he gave his talk, he made a point of telling about the many countries in the world that were represented there in the congregation. He said we're all brothers and sisters and we should embrace our differences. He told about his mission to England when he was a young man.

Elder Hallstrom spoke in the Birmingham conference
Thomsena & Stephen Anjum
in B'Ham Stake conference

The Anjums had corresponded with Elder Hallstrom during the years they were seeking asylum from Pakistan. When they had the opportunity to meet him after the conference, he still remembered them.
They were absolutely thrilled to shake his hand and talk with him personally.

Althorp in Northampton Jan 31, 2015

On the 31st of January, Elder and Sister Jolley traveled a few hours from Birmingham to help with a Work Choice Profile activity for the YSA in Northampton. Elder and Sister Theiss are the missionaries who work with them and they called on the Baxters to help out. The Baxters called on us for more backup. 15 YSA were scheduled to fill out the assessment. The WCP is a fun activity that helps identify interests and attitudes that indicate an aptitude for specific vocations. It's a way to have the young people talk about themselves and discover some hidden talents and ideas for future careers.

After the testing, we followed the Theiss' home to their flat where the sisters visited while the elders went for takeout fish and chips. While we were eating lunch, Elder and Sister Theiss mentioned that Althorp, the childhood home of Diana Spencer, aka Lady Diana, aka Princess of Wales, was really close by. We all got into our cars and drove over for a few photos.

Althorp, the home of the Spencer family for 500 years. This was the childhood home of (Princess) Diana of Wales.
There's a lake on the property and an island in the middle of the lake where Lady Diana is buried.

The perfect Halloween tree

The Front Gate at Althorp. Elder Jolley has the perfect haircut for this windy weather!                                                      There are certain times of the year when the home is open to the public for tours.

Old cemetery near Althorp. We didn't have the opportunity to look for the Spencer family.                                                 Sister Jolley would have loved a walk through the cemetery but we hadn't brought our winter boots.
